Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret
Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret

Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret announced plans to collaborate on a fashion line dubbed the Little Black Dress Collection. Nothing too shocking in the announcement as Victoria has often been seen wearing dresses from Roland’s collection, this just makes it official (you know the same way changing your dating status on facebook does).

No word yet on when Scary Spice will partner with Marshall’s or Ginger Spice will partner with a successful career …

Venus Williams “EleVen” a Grand Slam

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Venus Williams

She plays tennis, she designs clothing, she…lands a giant contract with a major retailer. Is there anything this chick doesn’t do?

Tennis great Venus Williams, a soon-to-be graduate from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, launched her new “EleVen” line, another in a stream of Steve & Barry’s celebrity collaborations.

Williams launched the line with an in-store appearance in Manhattan Mall late last week, greeting fans that were lined up outside for their chance to meet her.

One highlight of the collection is the “V-Court” sneaker, which sells for only $14.98. Other offerings include long sleeve logo t-shirts, short, sports bras, track suits and accessories such as sunglasses, visors and outerwear. All items are priced below Steve & Barry’s hallmark $19.98 price point. Currently, the line is not limited-edition, and will remain a constant offering in-store, with new pieces added continually.

The launch tour presses on for 10 days, stopping in stores across the country from now until November 25, when it wraps in Los Angeles.

You know, we’re actually growing a soft spot for Steve & Barry’s. Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Bitten” line is fun and fresh and Amanda Bynes has a line there as well. And the quality and style, for the price point, is unbeatable.

Congrats to Venus. Not a bad graduation gift!

Roberto Cavalli Line Debuts at H & M

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Roberto Cavalli

Designer Roberto Cavalli (aka J.Lo’s Baby Bump Hider), was on hand yesterday for the launch of his collaboration with retailer H & M. The collection was unveiled to the masses at the H & M flagship store on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The result? Mayhem.

Throngs of hopefuls lined the block, waiting to get their hands on a piece of the collection. With just minutes until the store opened, Cavalli was calmly answering questions and posing for photos as the campaign’s model, Jessica Stam, roamed around, glammed out in a leopard print dress from the collection.

“I spoke with London and Milan,” said Cavalli, “and they told me that after two hours, everything was gone!”

Two hours, schmoo hours. NYC is a whole other ball game, my friends. For here, within minutes, the racks were stripped. Employees launched snakeskin scarf print evening gowns from the upper level of the store down to the spastic shoppers. Racks were knocked over as one woman scored multiple gold beaded flapper dresses. Dark denim high-waisted jeans and leopard print stilettos, panties, trench coats, bras, dresses, and even bustiers were all part of the chaos.

Clearly enamored with the frenzy, Cavalli stood on an escalator with Stam, snapping pix with his own digital camera. His inspiration for the collection came from the celebrities he dresses, namely J. Lo and Beyonce. It was his wish to give young people “their own red carpet style”.

Looks like he’s done just that.

Fashion Designer Anand Alexander Says “Not Guilty”

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Anand Jon Alexander in 2004

Just one more reason for Dads to chain their daughter’s bedroom doors shut (with no computer inside) until they’re 35. Looks like pretty girls can’t even make a good living without sleezeballs trying to get into their panties. Sigh.

Now, it’s no secret that all is not right in the fashion world - or any entertainment biz for that matter. But jeez, when a celebrity fashion designer, a dude that that was named among Newsweek’s 20 up-and-coming players from various industries, gets charged with sexually assaulting 20 teenage girls and young women…we gots problems. Lots of them. These girls are, after all, not only from California, but various other states (eight in all) and two other countries. Nice. And he allegedly recruited them from the internet. Double nice. (more…)

Macy’s and Tommy Hilfiger Going Steady … Kinda

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Image

According to news reports Macy’s and Tommy Hilfiger announced a deal where Macy’s will be the exclusive retailer …

Retailer Macy’s Inc (M.N) said on Friday it signed an accord with Tommy Hilfiger USA Inc to be the exclusive U.S. department store retailer of the design company’s men’s and women’s sportswear, starting in fall 2008.

Under the pact, Macy’s will expand Hilfiger offerings in its stores and on its Web site, and work with Hilfiger on new ventures and brand extensions, the two companies said in a statement.

Tommy Hilfiger will continue to operate its own free-standing stores and sell goods online at tommy.com, the companies added. Products distributed through Hilfiger’s licensees will still be sold on a nonexclusive basis.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been in school and taken a business class but how is it an exclusive deal if Tommy still gets to operate his own stores or run an ecommerce website where he sells stuff? I guess it’s kind of like when your new BF wants to be exclusive with you but several times a day gets too … umm … nevermind … lets not go there …

I guess I should consider myself lucky they aren’t trying to reprise his awful reality show The Cut to fill in some programming weak spots this season.

Jeremy Scott Likes His Models Dirty and Wearing Garbage

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Image

Fashion designer Jeremy Scott featured quite a few unusual items in his fashion show last week. Things like belts that resembled your tires and clothing with prints that look like you let your low life boyfriend stomp on you in his construction boots for fun.

What’s even more bizarre to me is the dirty chimney sweep makeup and the faux trash can lid hat.

So lets recap you let you man kick you instead of the dog, and you look you slept in a dirty alley and are wearing garbage as clothes …

Jeremy honey … I’m so not feeling the I’m a beat down dirty garbage wearin’ ho look, and I don’t think anybody else is either.
