Sarongs: Versatile Beach Coverup
The sarong may go by many names — in Hawaii it’s called a pareo and in India, a lunghee — but its popularity eclipses the world. Found in the stores of nearly every beach town and decorated the walls and bodies of eclectic travelers and creative souls, the sarong is one of beachgoers’ favorite cover ups.
When looking for a sarong, begin by determining what your ideal length and width is. For women, a sarong can either be wrapped above the bust line, doubling as a dress, or at the waist, doubling as a skirt. Make sure that the sarong is a comfortable length, no matter where you’re wrapping it, and also ensure that it is long enough to comfortably wrap around your body and secure it into place. Men, unless you want to pull a David Beckham, your sarong is best used only on the beach, at about knee-length.
For women, there are many ways to tie a sarong, each showing off different assent and accenting different styles. Depending on your personal style and the pattern of your sarong, these versatile wraps may be used far away from the beach. But when you’re at the beach, the sarong is your ideal cover up, morphing from towel to sun shield to adorable dress when you want to run to the bar and buy a margarita.
