If you are attending a holiday party this season and want to look your best, the little black dress is your best option.
The little black dress should be a mainstay in your party wardrobe. Fabrics that work well are velvet, satin and even jersey knits. If the party is an office party, skip the plunging necklines and miniskirts. You can choose any sleeve length that you are comfortable with, from sleeveless to long flowing sleeves. Dresses that hit right below the knee are popular. But you can also wear a shorter dress (mid-thigh), if you are comfortable.
Little black dresses with sequins or beaded trim are terrific options. The dress pictured here is from Betsey Johnson. It’s available at edressme.com for $385.
Slingbacks are the perfect complement to the little black dress. Choose styles in dressy materials, such as patent leather, rich suede or satin.
Accessories offer you a way to really stand out. Choose a shawl or cape instead of a heavy coat to accessorize your look. Diamond earrings are a must. Keep the rest of your jewelry simple if you’re going for a dress with sequins or a lot of beading. For a dress with less built-in pizazz, go for a lot of glitz with long layered necklaces and embellished cuff bracelets.
For you handbag, carry a sophisticated clutch. You can stick to black or get a little wild with shiny metallics that are big this season. For a chic touch, carry a bright jewel-toned clutch as a statement piece.
Finish the look with flowing hair or a classic up-do. Smoky eye makeup, pale cheeks and a glossy berry lipstick will have you looking fabulous.
