Fashion Challenge: Find a Bra That Fits

shutterstock_27835717Today, there seems to be more types of bras available than women to fill them, so it’s not hard to understand why so many women wear a bra that doesn’t fit them. In fact, 80% of women wear the wrong size bra, causing discomfort, back problems, and a host of other issues that can easily be avoided.

Finding a bra that fits in very important for every woman, so important that The Tyra Banks Show filmed an entire episode around its theme. But even if you don’t watch daytime television, hope is not lost: finding your bra size is easy. Just grab a measuring tape, and follow these two easy steps:

  • To measure you band size, place the measuring tape just below your breasts, around your rib cage. Check your measurement in inches, and add five to that number. If you get an odd number, round up to make it even. This is your band size.
  • To determine your cup size, measure around the fullest part of your breasts. Make sure to leave the tape comfortably loose, not too tight, but not hanging off. Subtract your band size from this number, and the difference is your cup size: less than 1-inch difference = AA, 1-inch = A, 2-inch = B, 3-inch = C, 4-inch = D, 5-inch = DD/E, 6-inch = DDD/F, etc.

After you’ve determined your true bra size, head to your favorite lingerie store, and pick up lots of samples. Head into the changing room, and have fun. You know you have the right fit, so now you can focus on strap styles, fabrics, and all the other details that should actually matter when bra shopping.
