Designer Roberto Cavalli (aka J.Lo’s Baby Bump Hider), was on hand yesterday for the launch of his collaboration with retailer H & M. The collection was unveiled to the masses at the H & M flagship store on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The result? Mayhem.
Throngs of hopefuls lined the block, waiting to get their hands on a piece of the collection. With just minutes until the store opened, Cavalli was calmly answering questions and posing for photos as the campaign’s model, Jessica Stam, roamed around, glammed out in a leopard print dress from the collection.
“I spoke with London and Milan,” said Cavalli, “and they told me that after two hours, everything was gone!”
Two hours, schmoo hours. NYC is a whole other ball game, my friends. For here, within minutes, the racks were stripped. Employees launched snakeskin scarf print evening gowns from the upper level of the store down to the spastic shoppers. Racks were knocked over as one woman scored multiple gold beaded flapper dresses. Dark denim high-waisted jeans and leopard print stilettos, panties, trench coats, bras, dresses, and even bustiers were all part of the chaos.
Clearly enamored with the frenzy, Cavalli stood on an escalator with Stam, snapping pix with his own digital camera. His inspiration for the collection came from the celebrities he dresses, namely J. Lo and Beyonce. It was his wish to give young people “their own red carpet style”.
Looks like he’s done just that.
