If you are looking to add a few key pieces to your wardrobe this fall, be selective and make choices that are versatile yet follow the hottest fashion trends. Shop around and find items that you love. Choose chic fashions that can go from the office to a night out on the town.
Here, we take a look at some the hottest fashion items this season.
Fall Boots and Shoes
Suede Booties
Somewhere between the boot and the shoe, we find the bootie. Booties are a little shorter than ankle boots and come in a variety of fabrics and styles with every type of heel from stiletto to wedge. Right now, the trend in booties is all about texture. Look for booties in rich suedes, snake-embossed leather or slick patent.
These Christian Louboutin suede booties come in toffee brown and feature a fringed front and Louboutin’s signature red heel. You can find these booties at Neiman Marcus. These are a luxury choice at $1145.
Menswear-Inspired Lace-Up Pumps
Lace-up pumps are extremely popular this season. Here is one of my favorites for fall - the Claudia Ciuti Luella Oxford. The lace-up style is indicative of the menswear-inspired trend. However, the thin heel, pointy toe and shiny patent leather keeps them feminine. These pumps are available at Nordstrom for $332.
Of a similar vein are these Bally Glania Oxfords. This pair is built for comfort, featuring a rounded toe and a stacked heel. They are also at Nordstrom and are slightly more expensive at $575.
Grey Peep-Toes
From footwear to headwear, grey is dominating the runways and shops this season. Choose peep-toe shoes in various shades of grey from cement to charcoal. Grey is a versatile neutral that can be worn with just about anything. You can wear a pair of grey peep-toe pumps with everything from a basic black pantsuit to a jewel-tone print dress. These light grey slingbacks from Fendi feature a platform sole and cute peep-toe. You can get them from eLuxury for $605.
Fall Pants
Wide-Leg Pants
From slacks to jeans, the look for fall is wide-leg pants. It looks like low-rise pants are gone as the new wide-leg styles also feature a high waist. Wear wide-leg pants with a crisp white button down shirt or fitted sweater for an up-to-date look. Don’t wear anything baggy up top, or it will just weigh down the whole outfit. Wide-pants are usually not flattering on short women. Therefore, you might want to skip this trend, or look for pants that aren’t too wide, if you are under 5′3.
Cropped Pants
In the past, many women just wore cropped pants in warm weather months. Now we are seeing cropped pants in twill, tweed, wool and other winter fabrics. This season, choose cropped pants in brown, gray and olive. Wear them with thin layered sweaters and a pair of boots. These herringbone cropped pants from Barrie Pace are on sale at the moment for just $99.
Fall Skirts and Dresses
Bubble Dresses/Tulip Skirts
Bubble dresses and tulip skirts are in this season. These styles don’t look very flattering on the hanger. But when you try them on, they are very cute. They can disguise problem areas such as thick thighs or a little tummy. Look for bubble dresses and skirts in a variety of fabrics from velvet to satin. These styles are particularly cute in jewel tones such as sapphire blues, ruby reds and emerald greens. But they also look great in basic neutrals, as well as shocking brights like orange and yellow.
Wrap Dresses
The wrap dress looks great on most figure types. These dresses are popular this season in stretch jersey knits. At Nordstrom, you can find a wide selection of wrap dresses, including this JS Collection stretch wrap dress. At only $168, it would make a great edition to your wardrobe. It’s a simple style that can be made a lot more glamorous by pairing it with glitzy jewelry and other accessories.
Fall Tops
Feminine Blouses
Tops stay frilly and feminine this fall with unique necklines and billowy sleeves. Look for blouses in lace, satin and other fine fabrics. This Nanette Lepore Hollywood blouse features puffed 3/4 length sleeves and a v-neck. It comes in winter white for a chic, stylish look. This satin blouse is $310 at Neiman Marcus.
Tunic Sweaters
Long tunic sweaters are very hot this fall. These sweaters can be worn over leggings or with a mini-skirt and tights. You can wear them casually loose or with a belt for a more pulled-together look. This metallic tunic sweater from Spiegel features a deep v-neck and raglan sleeves. It’s on sale right now for only $39 from Spiegel.com.
Fall Headwear
Patent Headbands
Pull your hair back in style with a patent headband. These thick headbands are very hot for fall. This Burberry quilted patent headband comes in both black and berry and is available at Neiman Marcus for $125.
Newsboy Caps
The newsboy cap is an old school style that stays fresh this fall in prints and textured fabrics. This Eugenia Kim Newsboy from Bluefly.com features a tan and black houndstooth pattern that is sure to turn heads. It’s on sale right now for only $67.99.
When shopping this season, don’t buy a piece just because it’s trendy or refuse to buy it just because it’s not. Instead choose pieces that you love and become a trendsetter yourself!
